Two Days In Whistler Itinerary: A Fun Weekend Getaway From Vancouver

As I embarked on a rejuvenating staycation adventure with my boyfriend and our furry companion Beau, we were thrilled to accept an invitation to spend two delightful days in Whistler. This picturesque destination, nestled just a couple of hours away from Vancouver along the breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway, offers an unbeatable escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. With this incredible weekend getaway from Vancouver, I’m eager to share our memorable experience with you!

Two Days in Whistler Itinerary Overview

To maximize your experience, I suggest arriving a day prior to your planned two-day adventure in Whistler. This allows you to settle in and hit the ground running on Day 1. Alternatively, getting there early in the morning will also ensure you make the most of your time.

Day 1

As the day begins, a sunrise bike ride along the scenic Whistler Valley Trail sets the tone for an unforgettable adventure. The rush of fresh air and breathtaking views from atop a mountain bike are invigorating, and the perfect precursor to a unique helicopter tour experience that offers unparalleled vistas of the surrounding landscape. As morning gives way to afternoon, a refreshing swim at Alta Lake provides a welcome respite from the excitement. Later that evening, the charm of Whistler Village is savored during a leisurely window shopping excursion, followed by a delightful dinner at The Raven Room, where exceptional cuisine and warm hospitality await.

Day 2

Imagine starting your day with a scenic hike along the Sea to Sky trail, punctuated by a refreshing stop at Brandywine Falls. As the morning wears on, take the opportunity to soar above it all on the Sea to Sky Gondola, where you can enjoy activities and breathtaking views from the top. As the sun begins to set, make your way to Green Lake for a picturesque sunset, followed by a delicious dinner at La Cantina.

About Whistler

Sitting amidst the picturesque Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Whistler’s reputation as one of North America’s largest ski resorts attracts a significant following. The town’s undeniable charm is reminiscent of other iconic ski resort destinations worldwide, with its cluster of chalet-style houses and compact village at its heart.

Getting to Whistler

Getting to Whistler

The journey from Vancouver to Whistler is a visual feast that showcases some of British Columbia’s most awe-inspiring scenery. For those not based in Vancouver, flying into the city’s airport and renting a car is the best way to start this adventure. The Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99), which spans approximately 120 kilometers from the city to Whistler, is the most popular route. As you make your way along this scenic highway, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the towering Coast Mountains on the other. Depending on traffic conditions, the drive typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. However, if you have the time, there are several noteworthy stops along the way worth exploring, including the stunning Shannon Falls and the charming town of Squamish.

Best Time to Visit Whistler

While Whistler’s winter appeal is undeniable, attracting snow sports enthusiasts from around the globe, the town’s charm extends far beyond the ski season. From December to March, the slopes are bustling with activity, but as the weather warms up in June, July, and August, a different kind of beauty emerges. The lush greenery and majestic mountain vistas evoke a sense of Switzerland in the midst of Canada, making it an equally enchanting destination for summer visitors. I have a special fondness for Whistler’s summertime charm, which is why I’ve crafted this 2-day itinerary specifically for visits between June and August.

In the heart of Whistler, we discovered dog-friendly suites that perfectly catered to our needs. As an avid traveler who loves taking my loyal companion Beau on adventures, it’s essential to find accommodations that welcome furry friends. Our 2-day getaway was spent at the Pan Pacific Whistler, situated in the Whistler Village Centre. This stunning property offered a fully equipped kitchen, cozy fireplace, and a balcony with breathtaking views. Guests also have access to an outdoor pool, two hot tubs, and a serene dry cedar sauna. Although our itinerary was packed, it’s reassuring to know that the hotel features a spa and cocktail bar on site, allowing for some much-needed relaxation.

When you only have two days in Whistler, it’s challenging to explore a wide variety of restaurants. On the other hand, having a suite can be an added incentive not to venture out at all. However, if you do decide to dine out, there are a few establishments worth considering. For instance, The Raven Room is a locally owned and operated cocktail bar and eatery that prides itself on inclusivity, taking into account different dietary needs and restrictions. The owners, Jason and Steph, were more than happy to walk us through their menu and the efforts they make to cater to various requirements.

In addition, we had the pleasure of visiting La Cantina, an authentic Mexican street food-style restaurant that impressed us with its thoughtful consideration for vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. This added a delightful surprise to our culinary experience in Whistler.
