Getting to Paros
After departing Naxos on Blue Star Ferries, we embarked on a scenic 45-minute journey to Paros island. As we arrived, we headed to Karent Rent-а-Car to collect our rental vehicle. I highly recommend renting a car in Paros, as it grants you the liberty to thoroughly explore the island at your own pace.
Paros, with its charming small-island charm, is an ideal destination for self-drive enthusiasts. The island’s compact size – mere 196 square kilometers and just 13 miles separating the north from the south – makes it easy to circumnavigate the entire island in no time. With a rental car at your disposal, you’ll relish the freedom to stop whenever you please and linger as long as you like at each captivating spot.

As we ventured onto the shores of Chrissi Akti, one of Paros’ most renowned beaches for surfers, the energy was palpable. The beach is a mecca for kitesurfing and windsurfing enthusiasts, who flock here to harness the adrenaline rush that comes with riding the waves. If you’re keen to try your hand at windsurfing during your Paros getaway, be sure to check out the Sunwind Surf Club – a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Our experience was a thrilling yet invigorating escapade that left us feeling exhilarated and eager for more!
Visit the Old Port of Naoussa
As soon as you step into the charming Old Port of Naoussa, Paros’ Greek island gem, it’s easy to see why this place has stolen my heart. The cobblestone streets and waterfront restaurants serving up fresh seafood are just the beginning. I found myself captivated by the fishermen busily cleaning their catch, and the quaint shops that line the streets. It’s a small fishing village with a big personality, making it an absolute must-visit on any Paros itinerary.
Have a Beach Day
A trip to Paros isn’t complete without spending a day soaking up the sun on its stunning beaches. Kolymbithres Beach is particularly breathtaking, with granite rock formations creating natural swimming pools that provide a unique and refreshing experience. Meanwhile, Golden Beach stretches out in a vibrant display of color and activity, making it a haven for windsurfers looking to catch some thrilling waves.For those seeking a more lively atmosphere, Santa Maria Beach is the perfect spot, featuring beach bars and water sports facilities that cater to the younger crowd. It’s worth noting that while some beaches offer amenities like loungers and umbrellas for rent, others are more secluded, inviting visitors to bring their own gear and enjoy a peaceful day by the sea.
Stroll Around the Village of Prodromos
Nestled a mere 7 kilometers south of Naoussa lies the quaint village of Prodromos, home to Tsitsanis Tavern. This charming settlement is characterized by its pristine valleys and traditional cube houses, their whitewashed facades gleaming in the sunlight. The village’s beautiful churches and warm local community only add to its allure, making it a truly unique and captivating destination.
Photograph the Monastery of Agios Antonios
As I wandered through the island, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the Monastery of Agios Antonios, which had been highly recommended by a local. This 100% worthwhile stop is situated atop a hill, commanding a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. While it does require some effort to reach the top – think steep incline and rugged terrain – I would strongly recommend tackling the hike for the breathtaking panorama that awaits at the summit. The drive up isn’t always straightforward, with narrow roads and hairpin turns, so many visitors opt for a partial ascent by car before finishing off on foot. Regardless of your approach, the payoff is well worth the effort.
Go Hiking in Paros Park
As we spent our final day in Greece, we decided to venture into Paros Park for some exhilarating hiking experiences. This theme park holds significant historical value and offers a diverse range of cultural and environmental activities throughout the year. With its picturesque setting and easy yet scenic trails, Paros Park is truly breathtaking. The highlight was undoubtedly the quaint little church situated by the water, offering a serene atmosphere and stunning views. Our hike to the lighthouse was particularly memorable, with its majestic presence and awe-inspiring scenery.
Take a Sunset Cruise
A visit to Paros wouldn’t be complete without experiencing the island’s stunning turquoise waters from a different perspective – literally! Consider taking a romantic sunset cruise with Naxos Catamaran, which departs nightly at 6 pm for a three-hour sailing adventure. As you glide across the water, indulge in fresh fruit and chilled wine while taking in breathtaking views of the setting sun. For those who prefer daytime excursions, a boat tour offers an equally enjoyable way to appreciate the island’s picturesque coastline and crystal-clear waters during the day.
Tour the Arsenis Farm
During our trip to Paros, we had the opportunity to visit Arsenis Farm, the largest biological farm in the Cyclades. The highlight of the experience was the hour-long guided tour, which included complimentary tastings of locally produced specialties. This unique and tasty activity is a must-do when visiting this beautiful Greek island.
Take Cooking Lessons in Paros
During my time in Paros, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with a lovely family and gaining insight into traditional Greek cuisine. We embarked on a culinary adventure, whipping up a mouthwatering Greek salad and hearty beef stew. As we cooked, I felt immersed in the local culture, forging new connections and indulging in the fruits of our labour – a scrumptious homemade feast. If you’re planning a trip to Paros, I wholeheartedly suggest incorporating this experience into your itinerary.
Go Horseback Riding
For thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts alike, there’s no better way to experience the stunning landscapes of Paros than by embarking on a horseback ride through its picturesque terrain. Paros’ Horseback and Donkey Rides and Tours offers a range of unique experiences, including opportunities to interact with the horses in their natural habitat and guided donkey tours that allow you to take in the breathtaking views at your own pace. While we unfortunately didn’t have the chance to participate in this activity during our visit, it’s certainly an experience that I’m looking forward to having on my next trip to Paros.
Where To Stay in Paros, Greece
We had the pleasure of staying at the Adonis Hotel in the picturesque village of Naoussa during our time on Paros. This central location proved to be an ideal base for exploring the island, with many attractions within easy reach.
One of the highlights of our stay was waking up each morning to the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea from our accommodation. The Adonis Hotel’s prime location means that almost all rooms boast stunning vistas of the Bay of Naoussa and the open sea, just 30 meters from the beach.
When is the Best Time to Visit Paros?
Paros, a gem in the Cyclades, Greece, beckons visitors between late spring and early fall, specifically from May to October. This period offers warm and sunny weather, with temperatures ranging comfortably from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). While July and August mark peak season, drawing the largest crowds due to prime summer weather and festive events, those seeking a more peaceful experience may prefer May, early June, or September when the island is less crowded. Whatever the time of year, Paros’ unique charm makes it an enticing destination worth exploring.
