Keep Exercise Fun & Stay Motivated

Motivation can be hard to come by, especially when your bed is calling your name at 6 a.m. And yet, finding the drive to start exercising can be even more daunting. While I’m a fan of working out and recognize its many benefits for my body, I know that the mere thought of it can sometimes feel like a workout in itself. But what if you could make exercise fun? What if you could transform those dreaded burpees and wall sits into enjoyable experiences? As it turns out, there are ways to do just that. In fact, I’ve discovered six strategies to help keep your workouts engaging and exciting, and they can be applied to any activity you want to tackle.

Find an Awesome Workout Outfit

When it comes to exercising in style, dressing for success can be just as important as the actual exercise itself. Think about it: when you feel confident and comfortable in what you’re wearing, it’s only natural that your attitude follows suit – literally! You’ll be more excited to get moving and put in the effort required to crush your workout. And that’s exactly where the magic happens. When you’re genuinely enthusiastic about exercising, it’s easier to keep things fun and engaging. Now, you don’t need to break the bank to get the perfect fit either. Simply head over to a budget-friendly retailer like TJ Maxx, Target, or Walmart, and you’ll find an array of affordable options that won’t dent your wallet. The key is finding an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself – and when that happens, your workout is more likely to follow suit.

Grab a Buddy!

While my furry companion Beau would much rather spend time playing in the backyard than accompany me to the gym, I must prioritize our separate activities. Having a workout buddy, whether human or animal, not only injects excitement into your routine but also fosters accountability and motivation. The benefits of exercising with someone extend beyond the actual workout itself. You can engage in partner exercises, take your dog on a scenic hike, or even bond over pre-workout banter – all while maintaining a sense of camaraderie.

Make a Killer Playlist

When it comes to influencing our mood, music is a powerful tool that can literally put anyone in the right mindset – even when it comes to exercising. To get yourself motivated, simply fire up your favorite music streaming app and create a playlist with all the songs that get you pumped up and ready to move. Whether it’s Cardi B or Drake, include any tracks that make you want to get up and dance or hit the gym. If there are specific tunes that get you moving, make sure to add those to your playlist too. And here’s a clever trick: when listening to music while working out, you’re less likely to focus on how much you’re sweating because you’re too busy grooving along to the beat.

Change It Up! (Even Every Day If You Wanna!)

When exercise becomes monotonous, it’s not just because we’re getting bored – it’s also because our bodies aren’t being challenged in the way they need to be. According to fitness expert Jillian Michaels, changing up your workouts is essential for strengthening and challenging your body. This can be achieved by incorporating different forms of cardio, following a split routine, or simply altering the weight and reps you’re using. There’s science behind dedicating specific days to certain muscle groups – like legs, arms, and cardio. And let’s be real, who wants to work out the same areas when they’re still feeling the effects of soreness from the day before? It’s a natural progression that keeps our bodies guessing and us motivated.

Check Out Apps or Youtube For Inspo

When it comes to fitness, the costs can add up quickly, making gym memberships or classes an unrealistic option for many. Fortunately, there are numerous apps that offer effective workouts without requiring a plethora of equipment. Many of these apps adapt to your needs, allowing you to get started with minimal investment. If none of these apps resonate with you, consider workout channels on social media platforms like YouTube or Instagram. These visual tutorials not only demonstrate proper form but also provide an opportunity to engage with the trainers themselves. Most trainers are more than happy to answer questions and offer guidance via comments or direct messages. Just remember to be respectful and considerate of their time. In my experience, some of the most inspiring workouts can be found on Instagram. For instance, @rrayyme posts a daily workout routine at 9am, while @bootybyMich offers a mix of exercises and affirmations for motivation.

Reward Yourself

As you strive to reach your goals, don’t neglect the importance of self-care and rest. Treat yourself to a massage or take a well-deserved break when you’ve reached a milestone. Remember that taking care of your physical and mental well-being is essential for long-term success. A little sleep and rejuvenation can go a long way in helping you check in with your body’s ‘check engine light’ and avoid burnout. While exercise can be all-consuming, it’s not the only aspect of a healthy lifestyle. In fact, working out has numerous benefits beyond physical fitness. It can serve as a stress-relieving escape, a mental clarity-inducing meditation practice, and a vital component of overall wellness. The more you commit to your workout routine, the easier it becomes to stay on track. So, how do you maintain motivation and keep exercise enjoyable?
