Is there strawberry Sprite?

There is currently no strawberry flavored Sprite available on the market. Sprite is a popular lemon-lime flavored soda produced by The Coca-Cola Company. While it comes in a few different flavors like Sprite Zero Sugar and Sprite Cranberry, strawberry Sprite does not exist.

The History of Sprite

Sprite was first introduced in 1961 as “Clear Sprite” as a competitor to 7-Up. It was renamed Sprite in 1963. The original lemon-lime formula has remained largely unchanged over the decades, although additional flavors have been introduced periodically.

Some of the flavors that have been available over the years include:

  • Sprite Remix (2003) – Had tropical flavors like berry, pineapple, and mango
  • Sprite Ice (2005) – Had a hint of mint flavor
  • Sprite Cranberry (2012) – Available seasonally around the holidays
  • Sprite Lymonade (2019) – Combined lemon and lime with hints of lemonade flavor

However, a strawberry flavored Sprite has never been introduced by the company. The iconic lemon-lime taste is at the heart of the Sprite brand, and major deviations from that have been limited.

The Potential for Strawberry Sprite

Even though it hasn’t happened yet, there’s certainly potential for a strawberry Sprite to be released in the future. Here are some reasons why it could work:

  • Strawberry is a very popular flavor profile that complements citrus well in soft drinks.
  • Other major soda brands like Fanta and Crush have successful strawberry flavored options.
  • Sprite has branched out into flavors like berry and cranberry before, showing an openness to fruit-flavored varieties.
  • It would provide more flavor choices to consumers who love the crisp, refreshing taste of Sprite.

A new flavor like strawberry Sprite could attract new drinkers to the brand while exciting existing Sprite fans with something new. The Coca-Cola Company frequently does limited test releases of new flavors, so a strawberry Sprite could potentially start that way before becoming a permanent addition to the lineup.

The Success of Existing Sprite Flavors

Looking at how successful some of Sprite’s flavor extensions have been shows that there is consumer demand for variations:

Sprite Flavor Year Introduced Status
Sprite Zero Sugar 1974 Permanent addition to lineup
Sprite Remix 2003 Limited time availability
Sprite Cranberry 2012 Seasonal tradition during holidays

As seen above, when Sprite has deviated from its core lemon-lime flavor in successful ways, the company has responded positively by keeping those flavors around. This indicates a willingness to continue experimenting, which bodes well for potential new flavors like strawberry.

The Future Possibilities

While strawberry Sprite isn’t currently on store shelves, that doesn’t mean it will never exist. Here are some possibilities that could bring this imagined flavor into reality:

  • A limited release or test market launch in select regions to gauge interest.
  • A seasonal variety during summer when strawberries are fresh and plentiful.
  • A special edition tie-in with a movie or promotion that features strawberry flavor.
  • Permanent addition to the Sprite family of flavors if a test release goes well.

Sprite and parent company Coca-Cola are always innovating, even with their core classic brands. So it’s very possible we could see a new strawberry Sprite joining the lemon-lime original at some point down the road.

Conclusion

Strawberry Sprite isn’t currently available, but it has potential for future success. Sprite has a long history of refreshing lemon-lime flavor, but has branched out into fruit flavored variations over the years as well. The brand is no stranger to innovation, so a new strawberry offering could be on the horizon. While fans will have to keep waiting for now, a test release in limited markets could provide the first taste of strawberry Sprite someday.
