As I walked into a Hollister store, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the live beach cameras broadcasting Huntington Beach’s vibrant atmosphere from Southern California. The rolling waves, joyful crowds, and iconic spots for grabbing a bite all combined to create an unforgettable experience. It was our third and final stop on this California road trip adventure – what did we have in store for us?! I’m breaking down my Southern California journey into three distinct posts, each highlighting a main stop: Greater Palm Springs, Temecula, and Huntington Beach. If you’re craving more of the Golden State’s charm, be sure to check out my adventures in Gold Country, chronicled in my California Road Trip – Gold Country blog post.

Huntington Beach aka Surf City, USA

Nestled between Los Angeles and San Diego, Huntington Beach – affectionately known as Surf City, USA – embodies the quintessential California coastal experience. This sun-kissed paradise welcomes families, dogs, surfers, and sunbathers alike to bask in its perpetual summer-like climate. With temperatures consistently warm and the ocean remaining calm throughout the year, it’s no wonder Huntington Beach is one of Southern California’s most sought-after destinations for relaxation and adventure seekers alike. But the allure of this coastal gem extends far beyond its breathtaking beaches – the city’s vibrant food scene, featuring everything from taco trucks to upscale eateries, offers a culinary journey as delightful as the surrounding scenery. Whether you’re strolling along the iconic pier or exploring inland attractions, there’s always something new to discover and an unforgettable sunset to cap off each day.

Stay at Pasea
Hotel & Spa

The Pasea Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach left me feeling like royalty during my stay. The property went above and beyond to ensure I felt at ease and valued as a guest, with exceptional customer service that truly stood out. With breathtaking oceanfront views of sandy beaches and a prime location right in the heart of everything, this hotel was perfect for my needs. But what really impressed me was the versatility it offered – not only is it an ideal spot for romantic getaways or family vacations, but it’s also well-suited for hosting special events, weddings, and corporate gatherings. To top it all off, they have a fantastic restaurant called Tanner’s and a café that serves up the perfect coffee shop vibe.

I’m still reeling from the opulent experience I had at Aarna Spa, nestled within the Pasea Hotel. With eight distinct rooms catering to diverse spa needs, you’ll discover an unparalleled haven of luxury. From rejuvenating deep tissue massages to invigorating salt scrubs and customized facials tailored to individual skin types, every treatment is designed to transport you to a state of serenity. My own (much-needed) massage was nothing short of blissful – I didn’t want the experience to end.

Pasea
Beach Cruiser Bike Rentals

Huntington Beach offers an unparalleled experience, and the hotel’s beach cruiser bike rentals are a major highlight. As an alternative to relying on Uber or taxis, these bikes allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the local culture by exploring the beach and boardwalk at their own pace. With easy access to charming shops and eateries, visitors can truly get a feel for what this iconic coastal town has to offer. If you’re looking to add an extra layer of adventure to your trip, I highly recommend taking advantage of these convenient and fun transportation options.

I’m still on cloud nine after my incredible stay at the Pasea Hotel, where I discovered a unique fusion of relaxation and indulgence. The property’s thoughtful amenities include a wine and yoga combination that perfectly complements its stunning surroundings. It’s as if they’ve thought of everything – or should I say, almost everything, because what’s missing is only puppies! Just kidding, but seriously, this hotel has set the bar high for future getaways.

California is home to many exciting surf shops, but one place stands out as a true gem – Toes on the Nose. This unique shop not only offers top-notch surfing lessons, but also curates an array of thrilling experiences that make it a must-visit destination for any adventure seeker. Our own experience with them was nothing short of exhilarating! In addition to their surf instruction, they offer special ‘adventure packages’ and even host Sunset Services on the beach, complete with personalized butler service and a sweet treat – S’mores! If you’re ever in California, do yourself a favor and stop by Toes on the Nose for an unforgettable experience.

Where I Ate in Huntington Beach

Dinner at Ola Mexican Kitchen

Imagine a culinary experience that combines the vibrant flavors of Mexican cuisine with breathtaking views of the California coast. Ola Mexican Kitchen seamlessly blends these elements at its two locations near the beaches, offering a unique dining experience that’s hard to resist. The name ‘Ola’ itself is a reflection of this fusion, translating to both ‘wave’ in Spanish and ‘life’ in Hawaiian. With dishes like enchiladas, taco specials, and margaritas that are sure to get you moving, Ola Mexican Kitchen has perfected the art of creating a culinary oasis by the sea. Whether you’re in Long Beach or Huntington Beach, this beachside eatery is an absolute must-visit.

Breakfast at Tanner’s Huntington Beach

As I explored the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Tanner’s, I was struck by the harmonious blend of surf-inspired cuisine and sustainable flavors. This eatery’s creative concept is deeply rooted in Southern California’s cultural diversity, particularly within Huntington’s unique atmosphere. The result is a contemporary culinary experience that has garnered attention from food critics worldwide. Every dish is crafted in-house, with seasonal favorites like pumpkin and pecan sticky buns (available only during the Fall season), stunning acai bowls, and decadent lemon and ricotta pancakes. What’s more, Tanner’s also features a rooftop bar, making it an ideal setting for a sophisticated date night or special occasion. The combination of culinary innovation and breathtaking views is nothing short of enchanting.

Lunch
at Pacific Hideaway

Pacific Hideaway’s unique charm lies in its vibrant and playful decor, which effortlessly blends elements of international beach shacks. The culinary experience is just as captivating, with dishes drawing inspiration from a fusion of Latin American, Hawaiian island, and SoCal coastal influences. As you dine, the sophisticated yet laid-back atmosphere transports you to an upscale eatery that’s equally at ease with surfers and fine diners. Local favourites include tacos and tuna poke, while those seeking a more conventional experience will be delighted by the Hideaway Burger, elevated by the restaurant’s signature house sauce – a truly exceptional culinary treat.

Dinner
at Bluegold

Step into Bluegold’s beach bungalow-turned-trading-post, where the peaceful atmosphere and stunning ocean views blend seamlessly with a menu that’s as exciting as it is satisfying. As you indulge in their raw bar delights, savor the freshness of oysters, succulent shrimp, and succulent lobster – a seafood lover’s paradise! But don’t forget to explore the land-based options, including mouth-watering ribs, tender lamb chops, and juicy chicken. And for pizza enthusiasts, Bluegold’s selection is nothing short of incredible!

As we concluded our leisurely breakfast at Watertable within the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort, the cool ocean breeze mingled with the mouthwatering aromas of locally sourced ingredients, setting the tone for a fantastic day ahead. The breakfast buffet offered an unparalleled spread, while signature dishes like lavender French toast and avocado bread tantalized our taste buds. Our Southern California road trip came full circle, leaving us with unforgettable memories of exploring wine country, basking in the sun-kissed beaches, and marveling at the breathtaking desert sunsets. This adventure was nothing short of perfection! If you’re pondering your next getaway, look no further than SoCal – I’ll be back soon to experience it all once again. Until next time, California!
